Brazoria County was established in 1832, but the first 300 American settlers arrived in 1821 at the Brazos River.  It was one of the original Texas counties, and is named for the Brazos River. Brazoria County played an important part in the Texas Revolution. The largest city is Pearland and the county seat is Angleton.

The first capital of Texas was the town of West Columbia. Angleton was established in 1890, and named after the wife of manager of the Velasco Terminal Railway. Angleton was chosen as the seat in 1896. Pearland was established in 1893 and named Mark Belt. It changed its name to Pearland because of the large number pear trees in the area.
